The Working Housewife

Yesterday I was doing some research for a client and I came across the phrase working housewife.   I thought to myself how can that be?  Is it even possible to be a working housewife?  I continued my research, but that specific phrase just stuck with me.  It wouldn’t leave my mind for one bit.  I completed my work day then went home to take care of the children.  I warmed up leftovers (thank goodness for leftovers) made sure the big kid completed his homework, gave the little kid some mommy and me time and dinner, then made sure both kids were ready for bed.  As I began to get myself ready for bed I wondered if may day described what a working housewife would be (hmmm!).

A few weeks ago I decided to stop fighting the housewife side of me and simply embrace that 1950s woman I have inside.  Because I was living in 2010 there just didn’t seem to be a place for that side of me.  But once I embraced my desire to have a healthy home cooked meal on the table, clean environment (well semi-clean), family outings, dinner parties (that I hope to have soon) I became a less stressed individual.  You can read more about this epiphany by reading Are You Causing Your Own Stress Then to come across the phrase Working Housewife, made everything click.  That’s exactly who I am and most likely who my readers are too.  We enjoy working, whether it’s outside the home or at home, but we also enjoy keeping our household running smooth as well.  The best part about this was there is nothing wrong with that.

So am I trying to have it all?  You betcha!  Can there really be a such thing as a working housewife?  Umm, yeah! While my husband is running around serving the community there needs to be someone home running things and that is me (quite frankly has always been me, and the hubs knows it).  Yes I have a 9 to 5 and I’m running my own business, but I also manage my household and I’m loving it.

What do you think?

Does The Working Housewife exist?  Can she exist without compromising who she is?  I want to know your opinions.

Great Post! Working Housewife…that is such a great explanation of most women in today's world. I work from home, while working on the home and taking care of a husband and 4 daughters. Anyone women that has a household to create and manage on a daily basis can agree with your post. Yes, we can exist without compromising, as long as we keep our priorities in line (God,Family,Self)

Hey thanks for visiting. I'm so glad you like my post. You are so right about keeping our priorities in line. I personal know that when things get out of alignment (specifically God not being first) it all goes down hill and I have a little bit of chaos. I'm glad someone else can relate.
